Home tour: The school room

Well, so I'm sick again. Or still. Either way, it's generally unpleasant and not how I would like to spend my time.

So in lieu of something that would take effort, I'll show you some of my house! I already took these pictures, so it was about as low effort as is possible.

This is my favorite room of the house. It's my "school room," which used to mean MY school because I was in college. But now I'm not, so it's our homeschooling room. As far as that's concerned, it's about as pleasant as possible, and I'm glad to have a reason to spend more time in here. It's quiet, and it has doors that can be completely closed which is a nice perk. It's intended to be a formal living room, but formal living is for the birds, isn't it?

Additionally, this room and the adjoining dining room are the only rooms I painted when we moved in. This room was originally ballet pink, and the dining room was a mauve. Hideous. Who in the world would want pink formal rooms?

I also really enjoy seeing other people's homes. Maybe I'm nosey? Maybe I'll have to take more pictures and when I don't have better blog content slap another room up here. Or not. We'll see!

  1. I would totally do some school work in there. I also thought my grandmother was the last person on the planet to actually have a formal living room complete with a dog gate to keep out anyone who was too short to step over it. Hope you feel better soon.

    1. LOL. My parents have a formal living room. It gets used, but not a whole lot. Mostly my dad sits in there and reads, which is kind of nice in it's own right.

  2. That is a fantastic room! I absolutely love the fact that you can close it off completely. :)

  3. Oh man you have a beautiful home. Please say, tho, that it isn't always that clean and you spruced it up for photos!

    1. This room, yes. The rest of my house, no. The school room and the dining room manage to stay pretty tidy because they're only used for specific things and aren't just hang out spaces. I can't say the same for the family room or the TV room. Or the boys' bedroom and playroom!

    1. That's fun. When I was little, my mom used to take me around to show homes and we would look at them. We also lived in a neighborhood that was still being built, so we would walk through the houses as they were going up. It's still not quite as fun as seeing the ones that are actually lived in.

    1. Well, this room may not be a good example for the rest of my house. I guess you'll have to check in later and find out on that one! lol.

You got it from Wal-Mart? I just hate standard "desks" for a lot of reasons. This one probably won't be looking so good once it's getting more regular use from children and not primarily me. Only time will tell! At least I didn't spend a fortune on it.

    1. Thanks! Unfortunately(or fortunately) these ones are full to the brim with the adult books. There's a small black bookshelf in the room you can see that has all the homeschool books and supplies. It used to be my school books, but the kids have taken over! The boys have a large bookshelf in their playroom that has gone way over maximum capacity. It's expanded into the shelves next to it and books are stacked all over because no more fit on the shelves. We keep saying we need to get them another, but it just hasn't happened.

    1. Whenever we move we'll more than likely lose the dedicated room. Which is ok, we'll deal with it. But for right now, I love this house.

  9. My mother-in-law has a formal living room. When we go to our hometown for a visit and are staying with her I generally use it to go read in. She always tells me I'm the first person to use it since the last time I was there and I've spent more time in that room than anyone. She lived there for 20 years before I met her. Kind of funny I think.

    1. That's funny, and I'm betting her situation is not an isolated one. I think it's just a lifestyle that most people don't maintain anymore, but our expectations within our homes hasn't changed. We still want what we're used to having, even if we don't need it. You know?

  10. This is so exciting for me to see, since we plan to home school too! We'll be doing it from a travel trailer while traveling the country though, so that of course makes things a little bit more challenging!

    1. I've seen a whole lot of people who seem to make a classroom, and they have a whole lot of.... stuff. I'm just not a stuff person. I hate stuff and I am constantly thinning the belongings that we have because I hate having unnecessary things that we don't need regularly. Sometimes this goes too far and I get rid of things I probably should have hung onto, but it is what it is.

I'm sure you guys could make it work by being selective with what things you need to have.

    2. That's so very true! Luckily, I'm the same way. I do a big de-clutter on the 1st of every month, but I try to be good about it all the time so that "big" de-clutter is only a few items. Sometimes time gets away from me though!
